EDI is the structured transmission of data between organizations by electronic means. It is used to transfer electronic documents or business data from one computer system to another (i.e., from one trading partner to another trading partner without human intervention). For example, organizations might replace a bill of lading with an appropriate EDI message. It also refers specifically to a family of standards (e.g., UN/EDIFACT, ANSI X12).
The benefits to EDI are endless. The main goal of EDI is to reduce the volume of paperwork and increase efficiency in the invoicing process. By reducing input time, speeding up the payment process, and reducing data entry errors you will rest assured that you will gain higher productivity and an improved production cycle. When you and your customers are on the same page you can expect to have a better relationship with your customers and stay one step ahead of your competitors.
A transaction standard consists of uniform formats for business documents that have been adopted for electronic transmission purposes. These standards ensure that all participating trading partners use a common language. Standards also provide security and control as well as other rules and conventions relating to the use of transaction sets.

How It Works
By creating and customizing a series of formatted EDI Output Codes and assigning them to each account, the system will create formatted EDI transaction files and export them into a predefined directory. The files will then be transmitted to your customers via Email, HTTP, or FTP transfer.
